In 2015, Americans spent over $11 billion on teeth whitening, including over $1.4 billion on at-home whitening products.

There are plenty of products to choose from when it comes to whitening your teeth.

However, most whitening products use chemicals to bleach your teeth, which concerns many people.

What causes teeth to look yellow?

• Certain foods or drinks, such as blueberries, red wine, coffee, or tea

• A diet high in sugar and simple carbohydrates

• Side effects of certain medications and mouthwashes

• Smoking or chewing tobacco

However, sometimes teeth look yellow because the hard enamel has eroded, revealing the dentin underneath. Dentin is a naturally yellow, bony tissue that lies underneath the enamel.

Here are simple ways you can naturally whiten your teeth.

Consume Fruits and Vegetables:

A fruitful diet is said to be good for your teeth as well as your body. The two fruits that help in teeth whitening are pineapple and strawberries.

Limit Sugar Foods:

You need to limit your consumption of red wine, berries and sugary soda drinks that can cause teeth dullness.

Also, keep in mind that you need to avoid smoking as nicotine is the main reason that will cause your teeth to look dull.

Add Calcium on your Diet:

All you need to do is to consume calcium-rich foods such as cheese and milk that can help your tooth’s enamel from eroding.

Regularly Floss and Brush:

Brushing your teeth twice a day can help you stay away from many dental diseases and brush away all the bad bacteria.

Flossing involves cleaning of your teeth in its edges and this will help your teeth stay healthy.

Apple Cider Vinegar:

Apply some apple cider vinegar around your mouth and rinse your mouth with water for 2 minutes. Then, dip your toothbrush in some apple cider vinegar and brush, this will help you remove stains.

Oil Pulling:

Oil pulling has its roots in Indian soil and this is said to improve oral hygiene and removal of harmful toxins from the body.

In order to oil pull, you put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth, then swish it around for 15–20 minutes. Coconut Oil Pulling Can Reduce Harmful Bacteria in Your Mouth.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide:

Currently, most toothpastes contain hydrogen peroxide and this helps in teeth whitening and other dental benefits.

You can use this as a mouthwash too.

Brush Using Baking Soda:

All you need to do is to gently scrub it over your tooth’s surface and you will witness the difference

Making dietary changes:

Acidic foods can make the teeth look yellow by wearing down the enamel.

People who are concerned about the color of their teeth should avoid the excessive consumption of citrus, coffee, and soda.

Alternatively, they should always brush their teeth after having them.

Dentists generally recommend waiting 30 minutes after eating before brushing the teeth. Acids can weaken the enamel, so brushing too soon can cause damage.
