Sunscreen | An All-Weather Skin Protector

Summer is a wonderful season of the year, it brings with it the essence of freshness and happiness. It is one of those times of the year when we can keep ourselves more hydrated, have a long vacation for ourselves, visit our families and friends.

People love the rays of sunshine after months of cold winters. They love to spend a lot of their time on the beaches and soak in the lovely sun. But with all the joy, the sun also brings about harmful Ultraviolet (UV) rays which could damage our skin layers and cause cancer in the long run. This is where the use of a good quality sunscreen comes into the picture.

Why Wear a Sunscreen

It is recommended that people should wear sunscreen not only in the summers but also throughout the year. It is said that about 80% of the sun's rays can easily pass through the earth’s atmosphere, so if you feel that on a cloudy day it's ok to forget sunscreen then you must think again.

Applying sunscreen should be an essential habit that should be practiced throughout the year, including the winters, for preventive skin care. Wear sunscreen at all times, no matter what your skin type is.

Let's discuss some major reasons to wear sunscreen:

Guards us from UV rays

The topmost reason to use sunscreen is the ability of the creams to protect our skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. With the depletion of the ozone layer, it has become very easy for the sunrays to enter the earth's atmosphere.

Now, when we apply sunscreen to our skins, these UV radiations are blocked by sunscreen hence, reducing sunburns.

Dermatologists recommend buying sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 and wear it every single day.

Acts As A Barrier for Premature Ageing

Sun Damage can cause the skin cells to pre age and give a heavy and dull appearance to our faces. This can also lead to discoloration and collagen breakdown that in turn leads to lines, sagging, and wrinkles.

Lowers the Risk of Cancer

Skin cancer is quite common throughout the world, it may be prevented if people start using a good quality sunscreen with a minimum of 30 SPF. You can simply reduce the chances of contracting skin cancer by half by applying sunscreen every day.

Helps Maintain An Even Skin Tone

Do you feel your skin is being badly tanned? It is surely an effect of not wearing sunscreen.

Sunscreens are specifically recommended by skin specialists to avoid any type of skin problem such as tanning, damaged skin cells, or sunburns. Always apply sunscreen whenever you step out of your house or go to a beach.

What do we mean by SPF?

SPF is an acronym for “Sun Protection factor” , it is a measure of how good your sunscreen is and how capable it is to protect your skin from damage.

When we say SPF 30, it simply tells us for how long it will take for the sun's UV radiation to redden your skin. An SPF 30 causes about 3% of your skin to be penetrated by UVB rays. An SPF of 50 allows about 2% of those rays to pass through.

A higher number SPFs block significantly more UVB rays from the sun, but no sunscreen will block 100% of the UVB rays from the sun.
